Thing #23

1. I like the applications that allow web access to word processing and facilitates collaborative work. Zoho Writer and wikis would be very useful for team documents and information sharing. The different Zoho tools are great for those who do not have their own computers. I also enjoyed using Flickr and RSS.
2. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try out these different technologies. I will continue to explore them some more and find more ways to actually use them in my work.
3. What I take away from this is confidence and a more relaxed feeling about trying new technology.
4. The Virtual Services Team offered help and drop-in labs, which was great. I am the kind of learner who would benefit from more demonstrations.
5. Yes.

I'm done for now. Not quick to the finish line but I made it! Thank you Visual Services Team!I plan to go over the 23 things again to gain more experience and insight.

Ebooks are a convenient way to get books without going to a bookstore or a library. Audio ebooks gives an added dimension which is very useful especially for those who are visually challenged. Many also enjoy the convenience of just listening, or listening while reading the material at the same time.

The library's combined collection provides a variety of these resources. The Gutenberg Project is a great source of free ebooks, including classic works.

Thing #21

I explored Yahoo! Podcast, Podcast.net, and Podcastalley, and added The Library Channel to my Bloglines account.

Podcasts provide delivery of audio material that have traditionally been brought through such avenues as radio broadcasts and tape recordings. One can multitask while listening to a podcast. A video podcast provides a visual component which many find enhances their enjoyment and learning experience. A podcast using the appropriate portable equipment provides a very convenient way to teach or learn something - - a language, for example.

Thing #20

I explored YouTube and enjoyed Riverdance with Michael Flatley at http://youtube.com/watch?v=IrP9anxy0pY, posted by Kinky4Depp . I choose to mention this video in my blog because it is such a fun, exhilarating performance. I went to see Lord of the Dance in San Jose last year and enjoyed it immensely.

It is amazing the volume of videos available in YouTube and other video sites. As with all types of information available, there is a lot of worthwhile material as well as junk.

Information literacy tutorials and instruction would be a great use of this application in a library website.

Thing #19

I created an account in LibraryThing and added 5 books to my library. My library is at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rainbow12

Blink has over 3000 copies and 61 reviews in LibraryThing.

The Kite Runner has over 5500 copies and 138 reviews.

Thing #18

I created an account in Zoho Writer. This is a great tool for those who only have access to public computers. I like the fact that I can create documents, access them online, and collaborate with others.
